about

ICARUS (1972 - Ralph Towner, Arr. B. Abbott/D. Costa)
Ralph Towner’s Icarus evokes the spirit of the Greek myth about Icarus and his father Daedalus who invented wings to escape from the island of Crete. Icarus has become known as the flyer who fell from the sky when the wax that joined his wings was melted by the heat of the sun despite the warnings of his father. Now a jazz classic, a lunar crater was named “Icarus” after this song by the Apollo 15 astronauts.
