THREE PRELUDES (1926 - George Gershwin, Arr. B. Abbott/D. Costa)
Originally written for solo piano, George Gershwin’s Three Preludes mingles jazz and blues elements in a classical tradition. The first and third preludes are highly syncopated and rhythmic in contrast to the slow and bluesy sounding second prelude described by Gershwin as a “blue lullaby”. Three Preludes was first performed by the composer at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City in 1926.
